No recipient, no tone to get right, and it is still the message that most often decides whether a dispute goes your way, because everything else you will need to say later is reconstructed from it.
What you want out of it
The ability to state four dates and two figures without guessing, four weeks after you have stopped thinking about any of it. That is all. It is a small ambition and almost nobody meets it, which is why disputes are full of people writing about the second week of last month.
What to record

Where it goes wrong
People keep this in their head for the first week, which works, and then in their head for the fifth week, which does not. The failure is never dramatic. It shows up as a dispute submission that says roughly two weeks ago and gets read next to a thread with exact dates in it.
