Reporting a vendor

Different from a dispute. A dispute asks for your money back. A report asks somebody to act on a pattern, and it will be read by a person who has never seen your order and has fifty others open.

What makes a report actionable

A behaviour that can be checked without taking your word for it, stated in one line, with the evidence attached rather than described. Reports that describe an experience get filed. Reports that quote a message and name a mechanism get looked at.

Quoting: the version most people send

this vendor is a scammer, took my money and ignored me for weeks, something needs to be done about him before he does it to someone else

Quoting: the version that works better

Vendor [name], order 4417.

They asked me to pay outside escrow after the order was placed. Their message is quoted below in full, with the date.

Not asking for anything on my own order, that is going through a dispute separately. Flagging the request itself.

The weak one is a conclusion with an emotional argument and nothing anybody can verify. The strong one names one checkable behaviour, attaches the evidence in the message rather than referring to it, and separates the report from the refund claim, which stops it being read as a second attempt at the same money.

What to leave out

  • Anything about other buyers. You do not know and it weakens the parts you do.
  • Requests for a ban. Not your call and asking makes the report read as a grudge.
  • The word scammer. Describe what happened and let somebody else pick the label.
  • Your dispute arguments. Different process, different reader, keep them apart.

What happens next

Usually nothing you will see, and that is not evidence it was ignored. Reports feed a pattern rather than a verdict, and a single one rarely moves anything on its own. File it once, keep a copy, and do not follow up asking what came of it.

Why reports get filed and forgotten

Because most of them describe an experience rather than a behaviour. An experience needs the reader to take somebody word for it, and a reader with fifty open items cannot do that at scale. A behaviour that is quoted in the message itself can be checked in ten seconds, and that is the entire difference between a report that moves and one that does not.

Keep it apart from your own claim

Different process, different reader, different purpose. A report that also argues for a refund reads as a second attempt at the same money and gets weighed accordingly. Saying plainly that your own order is going through a dispute separately costs one line and removes that reading entirely.
