Opening a dispute
Somebody who was not there is going to read this and decide. That single fact settles almost every choice on this page, and it points the opposite way to instinct.
The shape that works
- Line oneThe order reference and the date it was placed
- Line twoThe date the window closed
- Line threeWhat happened, in one sentence, with no adjectives
- Line fourThe one remedy you want, named
- ThenThe message thread pasted whole, with nothing removed
- ThenNothing. Stop writing
Why short beats thorough
An arbitrator reads a queue. Anything past the first screen competes with the evidence underneath it rather than supporting it, and a long filing signals that the facts alone were not felt to be enough. The strongest submissions are the ones that look almost too brief.
I have been waiting almost a month now for an order I paid good money for and the vendor has ignored every single message I sent. I have been extremely patient throughout and this whole experience has been very stressful, I trusted this market and I feel let down. Surely something can be done here.
Order 4417, placed 2 May. Window closed 16 May. Nothing arrived and nothing was received after that date.
Requesting a full refund.

The weak one contains no reference, no dates and no request, and everything in it is about the writer rather than the order. The strong one gives a reader everything needed to rule in about fifteen seconds, and then gets out of the way so the thread can do the work.
What to leave out
- How the wait affected you. True, and it moves nobody who rules on these.
- Edited quotes. A trimmed thread reads as a trimmed thread and it costs more than the lines it removes.
- Accusations of intent. You do not have to prove bad faith and trying to weakens a simple case.
- Anything about the market itself. The person reading it works there.
The timing mistake
Filing before the window closes is the most common self inflicted loss in this subject. It usually gets dismissed because the event that makes a dispute appropriate has not happened yet, and the dismissal is then visible when you file properly. The loss is not the order, it is the difference between the case you had and the case you spent.
